The only league that we can play in is a mixed league with boys because we ski on the weekends in the winter so she has to play in league that plays weeknights. When she got on the ice she faltered, looked and me and said "I think I should have practiced before coming here". To make matters worse, some of these boys had clearly been playing hockey for years as they skated circles around her. I swear to you that she fell down with that stick in her hand 1000 times and got back up 1001 times. She never faltered in getting back up. Some of the parents were making comments about how bad they felt for her. I sat there in awe of her. At the end of it she told me that she "loved hockey". Then, one of the coaches found us in the parking lot and gave her the game puck because he said that he has never seen such determination in his hockey life. I was breathless and honoured to know her. Enjoy this video with a similar message.

WATCH THIS VIDEO. I find myself changing who I am so that others can feel more comfortable around me. Or, more importantly, less UNcomfortable. I mute certain aspects of myself so that it won't be too much for the people around me, so that they can better manage having me in their life. I distill my deepest desires because their attainment might mean hurting someone else's feelings. Instead, I sacrifice myself. I change, I morph so as to keep their love, to meet their conditions.

The cost is high. The cost is me.

I repeatedly send my true self back to the deepest darkest depths of who I am, banished because the world can't handle her. Or so I think. Maybe I can't handle her. Maybe her power scares me too much. Maybe I'm the one who can't stand in her light. Perhaps the paradox is that fully embracing who I really am is what scares me more than anything.

This dynamic is alive and well in most men and women today. For women, we are afraid of our power so we give it up willingly and then blame them for taking it away. We complain that they are holding us back when the reality is that they cannot take our real power, they cannot take our real spirit unless we let them. And we have. We have given it up because it's easier to blame them then to take responsibility for not living up to our truest highest potential. The true power of feminity is transformation. It is alchemy. We are the metaphorical chalices whereby all of the energy of the world can be transformed into love. We are literally built to receive and to create in our very own bodies. you don't need to look far to see this truth. But doing this work means being true to who we really are which is far more powerful then we give ourselves credit for.

For men, they are afraid of their true selves; their true masculinity because it has been so vilified in our society that they are literally afraid of themselves. They believe that masculinity is equivalent to violence. This couldn't be farther from the truth. True masculinity is about presence, not violence. It is about strength and focus.

When the true masculine powers of strength and focus support the true feminine powers of transformation and love then we will finally have the tools we need to heal the planet; to heal ourselves. We need each one of us to remember who we really are. We need to stop apologizing for this truth. We need to take a stand for our brilliance. Each one of us. One at a time.

THE QUESTIONS ARE THE ANSWERS....

"i beg you...
to have patience with everything unresolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves as if they were locked rooms or books written in a very foreign language.
don't search for the answers, which could not be given to you now, because you would not be able to live them.
and the point is, to live everything.
live the questions now.
perhaps then, someday far in the future, you will gradually, without even noticing it, live your way into the answer..."

~rainer maria rilke

Life=Risk--Motivation

Someone has made a brilliant video about successful failures. How many times have you heard that comment? This is not a new idea nor it is a simple one to grasp but it is true. And, if you make it a principle by which you live then you will unlock more power and happiness than you can even imagine. In my books, I write about a concept called Be-Do-Have. This is also not a new concept nor is it something that I made up. However, it is the profound distinction that means the difference between having power in your life versus being at the mercy of your circumstances. Let’s do a quick review.

Our modern culture actually has the paradigm backwards as Have-Do-Be. For example, many people believe that they have to HAVE money so they can DO what they want in order to finally BE happy. But, that flow is impossible and here’s why. According to Einstein, the entire universe is energy and what we consider to be “matter” or solid is simply energy whose vibration has been so lowered to be perceptible by our five senses. In that respect, what you consider to be real and solid is merely energy is a solid form. At the end of the day, it’s just energy. It’s all energy.

Taking that assumption then, let’s talk about the flow of energy. Energy flows thoughtsàfeelingsàactionsàresults. Everything that has even been made, invented, discovered or created in our world had its genesis as a thought. Everything we consider to be real had its origins in our minds first as an idea. Then, this idea was made more powerful with the addition of our feelings. This combination of thoughts and feelings prompted us to take action or behave in a certain way and these behaviours are what finally led to the result. If you look carefully at this flow you will notice one important distinction: it flows Be (thoughts/feelings) à Do (actions/behaviours) à Have (results). It actually flows Be-Do-Have which means that if you are looking for something in the physical world to make you feel a certain way then that is as crazy as expecting water to flow uphill all by itself.

When I was a child, my parents went through a divorce. Up until the time that I became aware of their problems I didn’t have a care in the world. Then, one day, the rug literally got pulled out from underneath me. As in any divorce, at some point, one of the people has to actually leave the house and the family has to split. In my case, it was my Dad. I can still remember that day like it was yesterday. I didn’t realize how pivotal that day was until today. What I realized was that I had actually anchored my feelings of peace and safety and security to my father such that the day he walked out the door so did my feelings. Since that time, I have not really been able to feel safe because at some unconscious level, I believed that he caused me to feel safe when the reality is simply that I had not cultivated the resources necessary to cause it for myself. In fact, his leaving was the only event impactful enough to motivate me to spend over 20 years learning that lesson. His leaving is the only thing powerful enough to force me to find those resources within myself. In that respect, his leaving was one of the greatest gifts he could have given me as a father, the ability to discover who I really am.

As long as you remain unconscious to the fact that you’ve anchored the feeling to the person, place, thing or event then you will always be dependent on getting it through the anchor. In reality, your experience of peace, love or joy came from within you and then got anchored to something in your experience. It never has and never will come from the outside. You already have everything you need inside yourself but you have to stop looking to the outside to find something on the inside. A good friend once told me a parable that illustrates this point.

The Gods were noticing that mankind was quite a powerful and resourceful creature and they were observing that it was only matter of time before mankind knew all the secrets of the Gods. A meeting was held to discuss where they would hide their most treasured wisdom such that mankind would not discover it. A suggestion was made to hide it on the top of the tallest mountain but they decided that eventually someone would be strong enough and smart enough to find it there. Then, they thought they could hide in the depths of the deepest ocean. But again, they realized that mankind would eventually be smart enough and creative enough to discover it there as well. A long silence ensued. Then, the Gods had an idea, a brilliantly simply idea. They would hide their deepest wisdom in the one place they were sure that mankind would never look. They would hide it inside each individual themselves.

It’s a big paradigm shift to take responsibility for giving yourself what you need. Believe me when I tell you that I have learned this lesson the hard way many times over. However, I can tell you this. When I live inside the paradigm that "I already have everything that I need" even if it doesn’t look like it on the outside then the resources always surface. Always, without exception. They may not surface gracefully or eloquently but they always surface and I always grow. The experiences that really test my faith in that paradigm always turn out to be the ones that uncover the most beautiful aspects of me. In that respect, the toughest circumstances, the biggest challenges, the most painful memories are the very events that contain the greatest gifts. But you have to be willing to look inside for what you need. The answer is right in front of you. In fact, the answer is you.

THE GREAT DYNAMIC
In order to be who we really are, we must be congruent with who we really are. I know that statement sounds redundant but it illustrates the point that the answers that we seek are often right in front of us. My recent experiences in life have lead to a place of contemplation of the balance of masculine and feminine energy. Clearly, I am a woman and that inherently means that the core of who I am is feminine. However, I realized that who I was Being and projecting into the world was definitely masculine. This incongruency between who I was Being on the outside and who I am on the inside has been the very thing holding me back from my best self. When I discovered this, everything shifted. I have come to realize that the presence of the feminine calls forth the most powerful masculine. Without the presence of the feminine then the masculine is left without a balancing point. This leads to burnout both on the physical plane as well as the metaphysical plane. Instead of being suppressed by someone or something on the outside, I have actually done the suppression myself from the inside. Ironically, in denying my feminine energy because I believed it to be less powerful and less useful than my masculine energy I have actually been the source of my own suppression. This insight has flipped everything on its head. Consider in your own life where you are incongruent between who you are on the outside versus who you really are on the inside. The answer might be where you least expect it - on the inside.

Mother's Day for Peace

The origins of Mother's Day are not what you think. He represents the faith of millions that change is possible AND necessary. What I find intriguing are the statistics of his election. He won this election on the backs of women voters, young voters and minority voters -ordinary people who have been the subject of marginalization in our society for decades, even centuries.

In his victory speech, Barack told the story of a woman named Anne Nixon-Cooper. She is 106 today and has been alive to overcome two obstacles to voting in her life. Her obstacles included her gender and the colour of her skin. She has been alive to see ordinary people bring about the change necessary to allow women to cast their votes in the United States and then again to witness ordinary people lead the change to bring about full civil and voting rights to the African American population. She herself is an ordinary person. I find this incredibly inspiring.

Barack Obama represents the reality that it is ordinary people who make things better. It is ordinary people that accept responsibility for their actions. It is ordinary people that end wars, fix economies, repair relationships and it is ordinary people that take care of each other, listen to each other and love each other. There is no "other enemy out there" who is responsible for what happens or who decides what will happen. It is ordinary people. I am thankful that those ordinary people showed up, waited in line and cast their vote. I am grateful that there was finally a big enough impetus to motivate ordinary people to dig within themselves and find the courage to finally stand up and say "Yes, we can".

FAILURE-LESS DOES NOT EQUAL MORE SELF-ESTEEM
My latest message in the arena of Successful Failing has been focused on children. In an effort to boost flailing self-esteem, a number of school boards have reduced or eliminated failure from the classroom and the playground. While I believe that they had the children's best interest in mind, I think that their approach will have the opposite effect.

Creating an artificial, failure-less environment will not boost self-esteem. Real self-esteem comes from reaching what you thought was your limit and discovering that you have more than you thought you did. Failure-less environments delay the inevitable life lessons that accompany failure until children are out of the nurturing environments of classroom and playground and out into the real world.

Schools (and parents and coaches) can do a great service to children by being by their side when they suffer life's failures. They can do a great service by helping them to pick up the pieces and build a stronger sense of self from the remains of a failure. Successful failing means learning how to view failure as feedback and to reframe the incident so that it becomes a powerful force in your life. Anyone can do this. It just takes practice and sometimes guidance.

I have just launched a new school program aimed at showing teachers, educators, parents, coaches and role-models how to teach children to pick themselves up when they fall. Remember, that failure is a sign of growth. Isn't that what we really want for our children (and ourselves)? That they be constantly growing and reaching new heights in their lives?

For more on my new program, click the link at the top of this page (look for "NEW").

IF YOU WANT TO FIND YOUR BRIGHTEST LIGHT THEN YOU NEED TO LOOK IN YOUR DARKEST ROOM

This has been my latest message when speaking to people. It seems to strike a chord of truth because I have noticed that many people nod in agreement. The basic premise of my book is that each and every thing that happens to you serves you in some way. Always!

I further propose that the things that cause you the most suffering are the things that offer the most gifts to you. But you have to be willing to look. You have to be willing to go into that dark room and finally uncover the brilliant light that has been there all along. You have just forgotten where it is.

Michael Jordan has failed his way to success

This is an old Jordan commercial. Thankfulness has the power to put you right into the present moment. Being in the "now" is one of the greatest experiences a human being can have. Therefore, thankfulness has the power to give you the greatest human experience. Why don't we do it more?

For example, as most of you know, we launched The Secret of Successful Failing worldwide. This was not a small undertaking and many of us worked non-stop for a couple weeks to make it happen. The results were phenomenal, we hit the #1 spot in our category on the 1st day. Then, I went on the road to speak 4 times in one week plus a plethora of media interviews. It was fun, exhilarating and exhausting. At times, I felt completely overwhelmed with all of it and utterly worn-out. It was at these exact moments, that I chose to be thankful. I chose to be thankful for my amazing husband whose technical expertise made the launch incredible. I chose to be thankful for my children "loaning" me to the outside world for so long with encouragement. I chose to be thankful for all of the strangers that took the time to write about how my book is making a positive difference in their lives.

Interestingly, at these times, when I chose to be thankful, I no longer felt overwhelmed or exhausted. Instead, I felt calm, peaceful and rested. I had access to energy that I didn't even know was there. I had access to the present moment, which was pretty amazing. Perhaps things don't overwhelm us or drain our energy. Perhaps, being out of the present moment is what feels overwhelming and full of effort. And, therefore, the solution is to stay present. And thankful.

CAMPAIGN EXTENDED
The campaign for the worldwide launch of my new book, The Secret of Successful Failing, was extended today due to overwhelming demand. I have been working with some of the most amazing people on the planet. The level of their support has been staggering.

I learned an amazing lesson during this project. Being able to receive is as important DOING anything.

I have always been very good at doing everything myself and getting many things done. However, I have also been very good at wearing myself out completely. This was one project that I simply couldn't pull off myself. I had to get support from others. The result was nothing short of magical.

At first, I had trouble with letting people help me. It was new for me. When I finally just LET them help me then it was like opening a floodgate of abundance. These amazing people started helping me and then they even started asking their friends to help me. I was in awe. Again, the secret was OPENING to what was available to me. The other thing that I realized is that by letting other people help me, I was actually giving them a gift by the simple act of receiving what they were giving.

"Unless we think of others and do something for them, we miss one of the greatest sources of happiness."
— Ray Lyman Wilbur

PROCRASTINATING
We've all been guilty of this action. However, I came to a huge realization about it recently. Procrastinating is all about avoiding your greatness.

Remember what Marianne Williamson said, "It's our light not our darkness that most frightens us". I have been guilty of just that: being afraid of my greatness.

The one thing that stopped all the insanity was to keep moving. In fact, I just started doing things; taking inspired action; step by step. Hours would pass. I was in "the zone". I am currently working like crazy on a best-seller campaign for October 16th (more on that later) and the results have been astounding. I have really learned how to let go. Instead of putting this date off (yet again), I have decided to do it whether I am "ready" or not.

Robert Allen once said to me "You know you know enough when you realize that you don't know anything and you do it anyway". It seems like it could be a very long-winded and complicated answer but it's really not. The answer to the question is very simple:

"Just let go"

Think of it this way. If someone asked you how to let go of a balloon on a string, you would say "just let go of your hand". It really is that simple. Opening your hand essentially "lets the balloon go". The key is in the "opening". You must open in order to let go.

If you are trying to let go of something big then you must open big. In most cases, the thing you must open is your heart. Healing occurs when we become open.

I learned this lesson this past month. It has been a stressful month and I have spent many hours trying to control everything. It makes for a very hectic day. Finally, I just surrendered and gave up my need to handle and direct everything. Two things happened: the first was that I finally relaxed and enjoyed my day (even the chaos); the second thing that happened when I detached from my expectations is that things started falling into place almost effortlessly. They were EASE-y (easy). I wrote about EASE last year but I guess that forgot how it worked. Thankfully, I remembered without a cosmic 2x4.

DO SOMETHING SCARY

Everyday. I believe Eleanor Roosevelt said that. It's a great motto. I consciously chose to follow it the other day. We were at Family Camp in Algonquin Park. They have a high ropes course. I signed up for it.

For those of you who don't know me, I am terribly afraid of heights. In fact, a famed bungee jump in New Zealand in 2001 can be viewed right off my website. This high ropes course was no pushover. Over 40 feet in the air.

When I arrived, there was no one there except the instructors and my husband Andrew. The instructor said "Oh good, there are no kids yet, you can do the rickety bridge". It looks exactly as it sounds. A bridge suspended high in the air at 40 feet above the ground - it was basically two cables with the odd piece of broken wood attached to it. It looked like it came straight out of a mining hillbilly movie.

I gear up and begin the 40 foot climb. When I get up there I am tethered to the safety rope that is being belayed by a woman who could not weigh more than 120lbs. Suffice to say that I weigh substantially more than that. How the hell could she hold me up? I would soon find out.

I began walking this stupid bridge and the fear flooded me like a poison. So much so that it completely halted me at exactly half way. I was stuck, shaking and scared to death. I muttered the horrid words "I can't". At this point both instructors joined in to help me. The girl on the ground showed me that I could trust her. The guy on the other side kept telling me to look at him and not the ground and do it one step at a time. I realized that "can't" was not an option because going back would be even harder than going forward. So, I took a DEEP breath and focused on the guy. I reminded myself that I WAS SAFE even though I appeared NOT SAFE. The scene was deceiving. I was very safe. I made it to the other side but I wasn't finished yet. I still had to get down on the ZIP line. I found this even scarier than the stupid bridge. I had to JUMP off a platform and glide down to the ground. You would not believe how scary it is to JUMP off a platform even though you KNOW you are connected to the wire. After a few countdowns and some MORE support I finally took the plunge. I think I uttered a meek "mommy" when I jumped. I guess you never really outgrow that.

What I learned after the experience was this:

When you are scared you need to pause, breathe and remind yourself that you are safe - this is called "TAKING CARE OF YOU"

When you are scared it is important to let the people around you HELP YOU, especially if they offer it. But, if they don't, then you need to ask for help. This is called "LETTING GO OF CONTROL".

It works, I swear. I have experienced a huge energy jump since that day. Facing fear is a freeing experience. And yes, I am STILL afraid of heights.

CHANGE
I have recently moved houses (which also explains my blogging absence). "They" say that it is high on the stress list - right up there with death and divorce. I have moved before but it seems that I have blocked out the stress involved. It reared its ugly head this week. I was not prepared for it until it knocked me over. I remember thinking "somethings gotta give". Well, that "something" was my expectation and pre-arranged notion of how things were supposed to go. That "something" was my need to control everything. I had to give it up. When I did, I finally felt good about all this chaos.

Does it really matter if the boxes get unpacked right away as long as the kids can find their clothes and we can eat our food? Does it really matter if we have to rearrange the furniture a few times before we get it right?

Ask yourself "what really matters here" and "what is the worst possible thing that can happen". You'll be surprised at how easy it is to choose the easy way. Understanding that once you embody the energy of whatever it is that you desire then the Law states that it must manifest at the physical level. The trick is embodying the energetic state of your desired result (person, thing etc). You can do this by understanding your perspective...

Are you acting from the perspective of someone who ALREADY HAS whatever it is that you desire? Or do you continue to act from the perspective of your current reality? This is a BIG key! In order to see the results that you desire then you must begin to act from the perspective of someone who ALREADY HAS them. This is another way of saying that you must "BE" before you can "DO" or "HAVE".

THE TRANSITION
For many of us that have been using the Universal Laws to manifest our reality, the road has not always been straight and easy-going. In fact, there are numerous times that I seem to swing from one end of the spectrum directly to the other. Needless to say, the other end of the spectrum is not that much fun. What I mean is this: I am a very powerful manifester. I have seen things manifest from deliberate creation to physical reality in a matter of days, even hours. This is often mind-blowing to observe but I cannot deny that I have repeatedly manifested incredible things. On the flip side, I have often found myself in an "energetic reality of hell". Just as powerful as I feel during a quick manifestation, this low energetic reality is the definition of my powerlessness. I used to think of myself as a "failure" during these episodes. Now, I see them completely differently.

As we begin to awaken to our real energetic "true" selves then we will become more powerful in harnessing the universal laws in our physical reality. However, we are in transition. The transition is from a lower vibrational state to a higher vibrational state. Like a ping pong ball, we may find ourselves bouncing between the two energetic realities. The higher vibrational state will align higher vibrational energy and manifest magnificence results of love, peace and joy. The leftover low vibrational state will align with low vibrational realities anchored in fear, doubt and worry. Those of us in "transition" will bounce back and forth. Now that I am aware of this I am no longer ashamed of it or bothered by it. I can accept that there will be transition and set my intention to best manage the situation by being disciplined in raising my energy. How do I know if my energy is low? It's easy. If I notice that I am not completely walking on air about being alive then I am carrying some low energy. Then, and only then can I choose to change it.
