LIVING LIFELast week I had the opportunity to go to Japan - FOR THE WEEKEND. Some people (most actually) thought that we were crazy for going to Japan for only 3 days plus 2 whole days of traveling. It is a long way after all but sometimes life doesn't work out all neat and clean. You have to go with the flow. In this particular situation, I had been invited to the wedding of a very good friend of mine. He was marrying a woman from Japan and they were having a traditional Japanese reception in Tokyo. The problem for me was that the date fell between Canadian Thanksgiving and my daughter's 5th birthday. Then there was the challenge of babysitting. It would have been easier NOT to go. Believe me.
However, I was reminded of how important friendship is and not to take it for granted. I am truly grateful for the amazing friends that I have. I am committed to being someone who IS grateful for friendship. About 3 weeks before the Tokyo reception, my husband Andrew and I decided to go. Our motto: "sleep when you're dead". Friends are more important than sleep or an organized predictable life. Some of the best experiences in life are not planned or perfect. Our trip to Japan was amazing and the memories that I have of my friend's wedding are irreplaceable. I have yet to recover the jet lag but I know that it will happen :)
