THE BEAUTY DISTRACTION
I had a revelation about women's obsessions with unrealistic beauty standards yesterday. I realize that it is the "great distraction".

Being obsessed with physical appearance and approval from the outside is a BIG distracting business. It keeps women busy. It keeps us too busy to worry about what is really happening in this world. It keeps up too busy from contributing to the solutions to the BIG problems that our world is facing right now. This distraction keeps up "out of the game". This is a tragedy because we are needed more now than ever.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to bear witness to some of the unspeakable atrocities that are occurring on earth AT THIS VERY MOMENT. Genocide, war and other senseless killings of innocent, FELLOW human beings. What struck me the most was the way the message was being delivered to me. I was in the audience of an event where Mia Farrow was talking about the distressing situation in the Darfur region of Sudan. What really hit home was that she was spreading the word to all of us because one women had pleaded with her to "tell us what was happening" over there. That's it. Just one woman pleading with another woman for help. Isn't that all there ever is?

People need our help all over the world. They don't care if there hair is the right colour or their jeans fit perfectly. They want more basic things like security, food, education and a peaceful night's sleep for their babies. In the end, isn't that what we want? I was shaken from my own "distractions" and realized that if I don't take a stand, who will? What exactly am I waiting for - a sign??

DOING THE LITTLE TASKS
I was working with a client today and she informed me that she was challenged to do the little things; the details. She dislikes details. She found that she just kept putting things off.

I reminded her of her bigger picture; her vision; her purpose. Why does she bother to do the things she does? BECAUSE SHE MAKES A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF OTHER PEOPLE! This was her motivator. If she doesn't do the little things or the "hard" things then I can guarantee you that someone ELSE will suffer because you won't be able to enhance their life. Marianne Williamson said "Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so small that others won't feel insecure around you."

Consider you big "WHY" when you dread doing the little tasks or the "meaningless" tasks. I can assure you they are not meaningless to the person whose life you impact.

HOW IT REALLY WORKS
Many people ask me about the Law of Attraction. There has been a lot of media attention on it lately. Most people get frustrated when they first try to use the Law in a conscious way. I believe this is because the focus has been on "stuff" - getting things like money, cars, boyfriends etc. So, when it doesn't materialize or when people "fail" at it then they chuck the whole thing out the window.

It is very important to understand that the Law of Attraction is about energy NOT stuff. You see, like attracts like, it's true. So you attract into your physical experience the "stuff" that exactly matches your energy. However, it is not as easy as identifying different "stuff". It's much more profound than that.

I'll try to clarify it:
Usually when we want "stuff' it is because that deep down we believe that having this stuff will somehow make us happy (loved, feel safe, feel worthy etc). But that is energetically impossible because stuff cannot affect these energetic experiences (I go into great deal explaining this in my new book, The Secret of Successful Failing). However, the actual "wanting" of the stuff is a useful tool because it can help you identify that feeling that you are really searching for.

The questions that I always ask my clients or participants is this:
WHY DO YOU WANT THAT "STUFF"? The REAL "WHY" is usually associated with a feeling in one of three general categories - Peace, Joy or Love.

Once you have identified the REAL "WHY" you want that stuff then all you have to do is focus on THAT EXACT feeling that ALREADY exists within you. You may have been disconnected from that feeling within you but now is your opportunity to reconnect and find it again. So, if you really want to feel happy or peaceful then FEEL IT RIGHT NOW. Go ahead, sit on the couch until you FEEL it RIGHT NOW. Then, when you really feel it you will have finally set in motion the Law of Attraction in a powerful way. Because now, according to the law, your physical world will begin to change in order to match your new ENERGY.

This is how it works. This is how it has always worked. Every time. You use your desires for "stuff" to help you identify the real "WHY" you want the "stuff" in the first place. It is ALWAYS a feeling. Always! Then, just find the FEELING within you NOW. Eventually, you will find that your physical world (stuff) will alter to be in alignment with your new-found feelings. Try it.

BE HAPPY NOW
I've had a revelation recently - Be Happy Now. It's sounds simple but it is actually quite profound. I had my dramatic version of "life" this weekend. I'll spare you the details but suffice to say that it follows the same drama of most people's lives -- some things happened and then some things went wrong and then I found myself quite stressed out. Sound familiar?

Well, the cosmic 2x4 hit me yesterday. AGAIN! Guess what. Life happens. Things go right. Things go wrong. The only choice I have is how I react. That's it. My choice. Always.

Thank heavens I have a husband who is committed to the same things that I am. He helped me see how the CHOICES that I was making were the actual root cause of my stress - not the circumstances - the CHOICES. Smack (sound of the cosmic 2x4)! All I had to do was to make a different choice.

It is not as easy as it sounds. I am very attached (read - addicted) to the drama in my life. I needed serious intervention. So, at midnight on a Sunday night, after I was already in bed for over an hour (fretting and stressing), Andrew decided to "mix-it-up" and helped me make a different choice. We used the humourous intervention known as "Friends re-runs". It worked like a charm. After a gut-splitting state change, I was able to choose a different way of being - I chose HAPPY (no matter what). All of sudden, I was so stressed anymore. This stuff works. Try it!
